complete, have been around for decades and are the norm in Europe.
Although these programs are much less common in the U.S., they're
growing increasingly attractive -- especially among older students,
who are becoming less willing to spend two years out of the work
force. A Wall Street Journal survey identifies the best accelerated
business programs. Here are the top 15 schools in the Wall Street Journal's ranking of accelerated M.B.A. programs. The ranking is based on how the programs fared in surveys of students and alumni, including how they were rated in skills and leadership enhancement and alumni impact.

2009/5/28 英国大学入学标准排名从上周周六开始，一直到今天，现在忙改卷子。一共250多份，为什么能花了这么长时间，连上来吼一嗓子都没时间？ 因为要对每道题，看清楚---是每道题，给评语。而不是每张卷子。 欣慰的是杜伦的本科学生素质不错，录取标准在英国一直都是among the top，这次考试分数还可以，做得不好的答案也不太离谱。 P.S.

2009/1/23 英国大学阶层 （三）智慧的光辉
出身是无法自己决定的事情。对于学校来说，建立得晚，并不是一定就说Stand no chance。就像出身在工薪阶层家的孩子，没有丰厚的家境，要想出头，唯有靠自己更多的付出和奋斗。
在维多利亚时期，第二次世界大战之前成立的大学被称为Red Brick University，红砖大学。它们成长赶上了英国工业革命带来的经济和科技的双重起飞。这些大学包括：
University of Birmingham 伯明翰大学; Royal Charter granted in 1900.
University of Bristol 布里斯托大学; Royal Charter granted in 1909. University of Leeds 利兹大学; Royal Charter granted in 1904. University of Liverpool 利物浦大学; Royal Charter granted in 1903. 这些大学享有比古典大学还高的知名度，是因为这些城市里面的足球俱乐部，让中国学生从看英超之中，也对它们耳熟能详。
这些大学在本科生阶段，鲜能与那些听到那些古老的名字让会让人醉的大学所抗衡。原因很简单：它们太“平民化”了。英国的城市和中国的不同，中国的城市象征着富裕和繁荣；而英国的城市是伴随着工业革命发展起来的，是工人阶级的阵地，象征着噪音和不安全。“上流社会”分数高的孩子，不屑于在城市里和平民老百姓的孩子一起读书。
在英国高考分数线从第十到第二十，大部分都被这些红砖学校所占领。

很多的商标，都要加一个起始于多少多少年（Since...)。年代越久，故事越多。北京人和上海人侃起来的时候，就比较有优势。或者是能说自己是哪个副总理家的亲戚，或者说祖上是钮钴禄氏皇亲贵族；上海人侃祖上底气就没那么足，顶多说是个棉纺大王。光久还不行，辉煌还不能断。山西人侃的时候底气也不足，说祖上是开银行的，可到了现在，只能挖煤。中国文化在世界范围并不强势，就是因为中间断了几百年的繁荣。欧洲人放个屁也是时髦的，亚洲人还得纷纷效仿，深怕慢半拍了被人笑说老土。这就说远了。
大学也是一样，时间越久，声誉越醇香。牛津大学是英国最古老的大学，成立于1167年。但它并不是世界上最古老的大学。比它更悠久的大学是：

从英国来看，最古老大学被称为Ancient university（古典大学），是用来指那些成立于中世纪，文艺复兴时期，持续运作到现在的大学。

其中，除了Warwick不是古典大学的成员以外，其他前7名最录取条件最高的大学都是古典大学的成员。
教育的机会在哪个国家也不是平等的。“上流社会”的孩子，可以上私立学校，1年的学费等于3年大学学费，有优秀的老师耐心的辅导，有丰富的课余活动；而工薪阶层的孩子只能读公立学校，上课时间比较短，老师也没有那么优秀。所以英国在高考率上，私立学校是遥遥领先于公立学校。录取的机会上也不一样。“上层社会”的孩子受家庭的影响，视野比较开阔，也有钱参加丰富的课余活动；面试的时候，言谈举止优雅；而且有机会找有影响力的人作为“推荐人”。因为英国高考难度相对小，没门都得A的人太多了，所以录取的时候，在分数之外的因素又显得尤其重要。
能进入“金三角”和其他入学难度很高的大学读书，是荣耀的事。在英国人眼中，一提到这些大学的名字，反应的则是：优雅的，极好的： Posh。 |
